Rabbit Clicker Training
My mini lop, Filip (zobel siamese brown, almost three years old), showing some tricks he’s learned through clicker training. The reward I give him is sunflower seeds and normal rabbit treats that you can buy in any pet store. Sunflower seeds are very fatty, though, so be careful with the amount you give! The video is shot in Sweden, which explains the weird language. All I’m saying, though, is pretty much “spin”, “stand” and “good” etc. At the end of the video I’m trying to teach him to lie down. I’m using the moment where he’s usually lieing down anyways, clicking at the very moment he lies down. This makes him realize what what he’s doing is the desired behaviour and eventually he’ll try to do it deliberately to try to get a treat. After a while you add the command “Lie down”. In this video he didn’t associate the word to the behaviour yet, so here I’m just adding the word to make him realize that what he’s doing is actually called “Lie down”, or “Ligg”, which is the Swedish word I’m using. Eventually he’ll pick it up and do it when I tell him to. …I hope. ![]()

@Tinwelende i show him the treat but its not in my hand when i lift it and he doesnt reach for the treat just stands like i say
…………..thanks for answering
It’s cause the treat is in your hand. But if you keep doing that and add the word “up” or whatever word you prefer every single time he stands up (AS he is standing up), he’ll start associating the word with the action. After a while (several days of training) you can try to just say the word without the hand lure. Just wait for it and repeat the word a couple of times. If he doesn’t stand up anyways, raise your hand quickly and then reward after taking it down if he stands up even after that.
Hi plz answer mee……….im just starting to clicker train my bunny and i can make him stand but only when i lift my hands up so is that a real trick or is it coz the treat is in my hand ?
What a cute bunny :p I LOVE flop eared bunnies!
My bun now goes in a litter box outside his cage. He seemed to prefer a specific spot to drop a pile of pellets, so I put a litter box there. Now that is where he prefers to poo, and especially likes to piddle in this box, as it is outside his cage. He rarely ever piddles in his cage anymore. Try placing a box outside the cage and placing some fecal pellets into it. Show the rabbit the poo, and give the bun some hay to eat as he/she goes. They prefer to poo when they eat and vice versa.
to the side if he doesn’t want you to pet him and he’ll lower his head if he thinks it’s ok for you to pet him. Try to always make him think it’s fun to be around you. Give him things to explore and give him little treats when he’s been good (with moderation). With time you’ll gain his trust and HOPEFULLY once he’s reached adulthood, he’s gotten his pooping in order, too.
He’s still very young and most rabbits get better with age, poop-wise. Though, males are always a little bit messy and some male rabbits never poops in one corner of the cage. But just give it some time, move all the poop you see into his litter box and hopefully he’ll get it eventually. To gain his trust more, try to feed him little treats from his hand and politely “ask him” if you can pet him before you do. If you hold your hand out infront and slightly over his head, he will turn his head
and i also let him out of the cage and block off some areas so he has a good amount of room and he doesn’t seem to poop on the floor only everywhere in his cage and when i pick him up to put him on the couch he will go on the couch. so i don’t know if i should train him some other way or to give him some more time to grow
i have a new rabbit 2-3 months old and all he does is poke me with his nose to make me move out of the way : / and he poops all over his cage and i tried everything to make him go in his litter box but he just sleeps in it and i tried putting his litter in a cornor and he poops on it but he also poops everywhere as well
and i hade him for 1 month now and i don’t think he likes me that much. and everytime i try to pick him up he start running away and when i put him on the couch he poops on it
You can start training them right away. The earlier, the better.
Thank you! Actually, that trick was just in the process of being taught. He was tired after doing the other tricks, so I knew he’d lay down. So right as I saw that he was about to, I said the word “lay down” (“ligg” in Swedish) and he automatically did and got rewarded for it. If I would’ve continued doing this for a few days (or weeks, maybe) he’d soon associate the word and the action with each other and hopefully do it on command. But for some reason I never finished training him to lay down.
5 stars very cool
a real tribute to the love and devotion you have for one another
Filip is one obideant bunny
Can’t wait to bring my bunny home in a few weeks just waiting for him to wean ( Flemish giant )
How did you teach him the lie down trick ???
How old was Filip when you started to train him? My bunnies are three months old now and from the rabbit treats I bought for them say that they’re only for rabbits 4 months old+. Such a pain lol, looks like I’ll be sticking with broccoli for a while XD <3 xxx

Tack!
Detsamma till dig!
vad duktig din Filip är
och han är väldig söt ….. Önskar dig en trevlig kväll
It’s easier when they are younger. If your rabbit is peeing in one corner of the cage, just put the litter box right there and put the material that has got the pee on it into the litter box. After a while the rabbit will be used to pee in the litter box. As soon as it pees outside of the box, you take the wet material and put that into the litter box so that the rabbit never has wet litter other places than in the litter box. He will soon realize that that’s where to pee (hopefully).
how do you litter train your rabbit? mine is 34 weeks old, are older rabbits easier to train?
Wow! thats really cool!
@Tinwelende yeah i agree!!! and thanks for the comment!!!
Stupid rabbit tricks are great stimulation for a rabbit, since he gets activated and gets to use his head. He’s got a much happier and richer life than the rabbits of the ones who don’t do stupid rabbit tricks with them.
stupid rabbit tricks are for kids!!! by the way hes so cute and fluffy!!
DETERMINATION
its so cute! made another videos of your bunny
White sunflower seeds. His favorite. Though, they are very fatty, so you should never give them big amounts.
