My Jack Russell/Sheltie cross does the same…he goes into his kennel to sleep at night no problem…even sometimes during the day if I am home, but as soon as I close the kennel’s door, he starts to whine, bark, howl. He does this every morning when I have to crate him before I leave for work…I’ve only had him for almost 4 weeks now…he has major issues…but, it’s a slow training process…with a professional trainer.
a good way to get him over this is to wait till hes completely quiet before you take him out, do not give him any attention at all while he is making noise… perhaps move his cage into your bedroom for a bit , or what i did with my german shepherd puppy was put a blanket over his cage so he couldn’t see if i was there or not, it really worked.
My Dotsin/lab puppy is almost a year old. he has done this since he was 3 months old. he has done pinched the bars of the cage together and he has torn the tray apart. he even pulled the back down to where he can get out. but if we dont put him in there he rips up the house.
My Lobo does this the same but he sounds like he’s singing. I always feel sorry for him and I just come see him calm him down with a hug. Beside if I leave him alone too long someone might throw rocks at him again.
@TheBigPinapple well unfortunately i cant help ya! he started getting to big for his cage so i just left him out and hes been fine! maybe it has something to do with age idk…but he also has not been left alone for TOO long.
i would take this behaviour over my dogs anyday lol. mines a 4 month old mastiff and barks non stop frantically for 5-6 hours straight way worse than this. But still an issue none the less. try a radio left on, or a television, or building up how long you leave for. 5 min then come back, 10 min etc. perhaps a DVD that has doggies playing… although that didn’t work for me. If you find out how to solve problem please let me know
@snoopy54789 Get a dog trainer to help. Dogs sometimes self mutilate when they have separation anxiety, so you need to sort it out as quickly as possible.
yah i dont know how to get him to settle down. i made the mistake of leaving him out around the house and he destroyed it, so i got a cage. ive tried to leave him in his cage for a little bit at a time ive tried the kong, but he just wont go for anything. its hard!
Mine do the same thing. I work from home, but I need to get a part time job and I’m worried about them (I have two huskies) because they howl like it’s SO miserable. Before these two, I had one husky and I just let her have the run of the basement and she was fine. I can’t do that with these two quite yet. They are not trained enough at 12 and 13 weeks.

My dog does this…I feel like I’ve tried everything! The people who live below us said he does it the whole time I’m at work….I don’t know what to do!
