Hi I am new to You Tube and to taking care of my dog, Dutchess. Your video here is helping a lot. She has been home less then a day. last night I took her to the vet to express her because both my husband and I were still having trouble. It is encouraging to hear you say it is ok if we do not get it right away. After watching this video I was able to express her, although I do not think all came out. I will continue to try. Bless you for this. She had surgery last Monday evening,

Thanks for the post Paula. We’re waiting to see if our just-diagnosed beagle/boston terrier mix is going to be able to pee on her own and continue pooping on her own. If she’s not pooping a *lot* could that mean she’s not really controlling that at all? Thanks.

@ya0ish3lly, I highly recommend the website “Dodgerslist” as the most comprehensive in information on disc disease and how to care for these dogs. Most dogs do recover with rest and medications. Clark is one who did not. Being paralyzed does not hinder Clark from enjoying all that life has to offer with the help of his wheelchair and a bit of help in the bathroom department from me.
I was reading up on dachshund spine problems and the results. I was wondering about this topic on paralyzed dogs. This is interesting. thank you. ^_^
@PUNITislaughedat OMG. Our staffy is the same. NIL Pain, totally alert, eating, everything, has feeling and movementi n her legs, just can’t walk. Blood tests all clear, no signs of tumor or stroke, vet thinks either slipped disc, or tumor on the spine.

@PaulafromMT we have taken him to the vet and she doesnt think that its a disc or spine problem because he isnt in any pain,he just cant move his legs..he has Lyme disease though which can rarely cause paralysis,my family and I are just praying that this isnt permanent
Please make sure your dog is crated to protect the spinal cord if this injury is less than 8 weeks ago. Get vet help right away to reduce damage to the nerves in the cord so it won’t be permanent. There is a wealth of information and support on Dodgerslist Please join us. Everyone can learn to express, it is a practice thing. Do not hesitate to go back for another expressing lesson at your vet.
this is breaking my heart my 8 year old min pin is unable to move his back legs anymore and i can not get him to go potty the normal way or by expressing,i wish i was a strong as this women

I can see this video contributing to the saving of lives. Some individuals might be to overwhelmed at the thought of learning this technique, and see putting their dog down as the only answer. I learned the techniques necessary to keep my dachshund’s bladder healthy & empty in just a matter of days. Patience, love, and tips included in this video are all it takes!
