Barking- Episode 3 – barking on a walk -dog training
This is the third episode in the series of Barking. In this episode I will show you the beginning exercises on how to teach your dog not to bark on a walk. Stay tuned and Subscribe to see other exercises that are very useful for reactive dogs and dogs that are hyperactive. All these exercises benefit ANY dog, not just fearful, reactive or aroused dogs. These same exercises are GREAT for dogs with little impulse control, the kind of dog that wants to pull towards everything on a walk. ———————– When a dog becomes aroused or reactive, it is due to chemicals being released by the brain, effecting the dogs behavior. Not only does a dogs behavior change because of these chemicals and stress hormones, but their heart beat, respiration, and blood flow will change too. Jerking a dogs neck will not reduce these chemicals, instead it will INCREASE them. Barking can be reinforcing, so the more a dog is allowed to bark the more likely they will continue barking in the future. When you and your dog are surprised on a walk and your dog starts to bark, simply say “Let’s Go” and move briskly in the opposite direction. You can use this cue whenever you change direction unexpectedly or need to move from an area that is causing your dog to be over their threshold. Here are some tips: 1-when on a walk cross the street to set your dog up for success 2-If you have a very fearful or reactive dog, simply change the direction of your walk when you see something your dog wont be able …

Emily, my dog has gotten so reactive to cats and squirrels in the back yard that he is injuring himself by jumping against the fence. He’s better when on a walk but I hope that–by using your methods–I can change his behavior in the yard. Before he gets badly hurt.
This came in handy, Thanks.
Thank you soooo much for this video. I really like your method and it seems very effective on my cairn terrier
My 2 year old male dog barks every time he sees a dog. I have taught him the “let’s go” command, but when other dogs are around I literally have to drag him away. I have tried this several times with dogs around my complex, but my dog tries to bolt at any dog he sees, what am I doing wrong?
i have a gsd puppy, and since he is a guarding breed he has a habbit of barking when we tie him outside, also he barks at other dogs with a growls, but he doesn’t intend harm he wants to play.. is there any method i could use when i don’t have treats or the clicker?
Thanks for putting up these incredibly well thought out videos that actually work!
I get the feeling that all this is put up for free because of a real altruistic attempt to change the current state of things out there in walk-land, which is also a really nice thing.
The thing I find wih Kikopup’s methods is that even when the shit hits the fan, I’ve always got at least something simple to remember so as to not reinforce the situation and non-aggressivly react, thus keeping my dogs bond
@emilyschannel97 I’ve noticed with my Jack Russell when she starts barking, or pulls on the leash, you make the leash shorter, and hold the leash above His/Her head
Hi, do you have any advice on a barking dog when sat out side a cafe. He barks at dogs walking past or people appearing from doors unexpectedly. He is 7 months old.
my dogs only bark at some dogs in the neighborhood and even if i tell them no, they still bark. I try turning around but most of the time they keep on barking. It’s a little inbarasing especially since they bark very loud. what could I do?
@AJ72Camaro well, i said that wrong in my last reply to you, i meant the second type of treats are not exactly rewards, but, are being put down slowly, right in front of the dog, as a distraction/make association “scarey dogs = treats”
and also, this helps dog sort of assume the sniff position, which is calming signal also.
like i said,
NOTHING has helped my aggressive reactive dog much as following Kikopup’s advice. Even if it doesn’t make sense to how you *think* your dog thinks..
@AJ72Camaro Lol, i wonder, if you’ve yet taught, “Leave it”???
I am in control, of which treats my dogs gets,
and which ones he doens’t get.
My dog is not confused at all, After working on my dog-aggressive dog, NOTHING, no book, no trainer, nothing has helped him as much as me imitating Kikopup.
Please watch it again.
The tossed treats are being used as distractions, to cause dog to pull, so Kikopup can teach him “when leash pulls, we change directions” the others r rewards set down.
@dietolleeinzigartige Leave sooner? BEFORE your dog barks, so your dog gets hang of “Let’s go”.???
@dietolleeinzigartige same problem, but i have a JRT X :/
you must read this. once you have started there is no turning back. a little 10 year old girl was raped and murderded in 1945. her body was not found until 1947. then a boy last week read this and did not copy and paste this message. the dead girl appeared in his room haunting him and killed him. if you do not copy and paste this onto 10 videos in 90 minutes the dead girl will apear in your room tonight and haunt you and kill you. well you better start copy and pasting
You are a great dog owner!
my dog is a yorkshire terrier, and he barks everytime he sees a BIG DOG
he sometimes barks at people too.
i tried the trick(LET’S GO!),but he still was barking
please help me,
thank you
i love this episode!
In the dog’s eyes, you are completely contradicting yourself by using those treats, by first warding off the dog from them by not allow it to obtain the treats, then later, you use them to ward off the dog from other dogs or similar stimuli.
This mixed message causes confusion. The dog doesn’t know why it does or does not deserve a treat. This type of behavioral training is everything but consistent.
I completely disagree with your methods and will no longer watch your videos.
Awww…love this video. Check out our video on dog walking on our channel.
Hey Kikopup. Your videos are amazing. I am fostering a morbidly obese rescue dog. It’s been a week. The problem is that he cannot walk like in the video. He can slowly walk about 30 or 40 paces and then needs to rest for 10 minutes. He is barking at passing dogs and also when he wants attention. I try to ignore him and them click and treat when he quiets down. Any other suggestions to help with his barking? Thanks again so much for your fantastic videos.
I really love your clips but would really like to see some using untrained dogs with the problems you are addressing. This dog is lovely but doesn’t seem to have a barking issue!
how many clicks does it take to get your shirt opened and your trap shut?
What happens if my dog charles keeps farting?
I tried to use these tips and i turned around every time he farted and I said briefly “Lets Go!” And then he did a handstand and farted everywhere. How can I prevent this behavior of charlie? P.S. It smells like shit.
I really have problems with my dog barking at people who work at my house. Every time the same person comes in a door, my dog starts barking and even biting. What can I do? If he keeps on barking my parents are going to send him out of my house! I really need your help! Please! Thank you.
k9leashes dot C0// … great for aggressive or big dogs, for everyones saftey!
