dog grooming equipment and tools?
Question by Roz: dog grooming equipment and tools?
I am wanting got start a new career in dog grooming. I know an company near me is offering a course which is 24 days and gets you training in what you need to know for £3800 plus £500 for registration for exams with NPTC and you get a few things with that. But I am wondering when i become qualified would whoever I work for provide the tools or would I need to buy my own? Where would be the best place to buy them from and how much should i expect to pay?
Any help would be grateful

The price of that course is scandalous. You will learn nothing in 24 days. Go to a grooming salon and ask if you could apprentice with them. Tell them you will do it for nothing or very little, You will learn much more. We taught groomers basic clipping in a 16 week course for a third of that.
There is a college near me that offers grooming courses that are several months long. And that just covers basic poodle grooming.

Where should I get agility equipment from for my dog?
Question by Stella M: Where should I get agility equipment from for my dog?
I have a large rottweiler I would like to agility train in my backyard. What’s a good set and where can I get it? Do the tubes and hoops come in a standard size or do they make bigger ones for dogs like mine? (he’s about 130 pounds)

Equipment: Leash Making
How to make your own training leads. The five lengths I like are 3′, 12′, 20′, 50′ and a three- to four-foot lead with a loop at the other end I can attach to my belt.

Why not try e-bay or Craigslist. Used is often just as good as new. Just much cheaper.

AKC agility equipment questions.?
Question by love2dance1457: AKC agility equipment questions.?
Hi! I am planning on building my own agility equipment to train my dogs. I am not sure whether or not I will enter them in an agility Competition… but I would like to have them up to AKC standards just in case. ( I believe they would be in the 12″ division)
I’ve been on the AKC website looking up the official rules and standards of all the equipment. I feel like a have a fair grasp of the specifications and I’ve also been looking at a lot of pictures to help me out.
My main question is : When they give a measurement for PVC (jumps, weave poles etc.) is the measurement for the inside circumference or the outside circumference? This would make a good bit of a difference.
Also, some obstacles are given a range in their sizing or spacing. This can also make a pretty big difference especially in the weave poles because the dog has to create a foot pattern.
As of now, I plan on training at my house without the assistance of a class or club. And since there is a chance my dogs will compete one day, I want to give them the best chance possible.
Thank you for your time!
PLEASE do not give an answer if you do not know. Like I just said, it is important for me to have the CORRECT measurements.

If you really want to give your dog the best chance of possibly competing in the future, then you need to find a class.
You can build all the equipment in the world, but if you teach it incorrectly, then your dog will not have a reliable performance. There is a right way and a wrong way to introduce equipment and the wrong way will either get your dog hurt or will create fear based issues and he will not able to reliably perform the equipment.
For the PVC jumps it’s from the inside circumference. I don’t know what you mean about weave polls, since their in a line. Are you asking what is the spacing for them between polls?
I live in an apartment in NYC, the only equipment I own are a set of 4 portable jumps and 12 stick in the ground weave polls. However, I attended classes and seminar’s. I did basic stuff at home on the flat and occasionally pulled out my equipment. The rest was all done in class under the supervision of a very good instructor.
I’ve been competing in agility since 1997, first with a mixbreed that retired with Outstanding & Superior Elite titles in NADAC. I currently run a Standard Dachshund in AKC Excellent/Open, NADAC Elite and USDAA P2. I’m currently training a 7 month old puppy dachshund that is in a foundation class.
All without owning and building any real equipment.

Agility Flatwork Adding Equipment – Clicker Puppy Agility Training
www.pamsdogacademy.com Twix is now starting agility with equipment. I have been working a lot on his flatwork (front crosses, rear crosses, shadow handling, and circle work) and so we are now adding equipment. I have taught him most of the equipment independently from each other and now we are starting to sequence and combine things. I hope this helps many of you with puppies as I feel it is really important to train a dog to be able to follow the handlers movement and body language before building drive and love for the equipment. That will come pretty easily. Especially if you have a border collie.
