I know poodles don’t shed and when they do it’s very minimal and in clumps. If you get a mini or teacup poodle their size is very efficient in small apartments and homes. They’re really smart dogs and since they’re small, they rarely slobber, but all dogs slobber lol. One thing, if you get a poodle when it’s already middle aged, I wouldn’t recommend it for kids, but if it’s a puppy, it should be fine. Good luck
Labs no questions asked. We have had two and my husband grew up with them. They love kids and protect when needed. I will continue to get them for the rest of my life. I love them!!!!
labs are great with kids but they shed..but pretty much every dog that is good with kids shed, other then poodles beagles are great with kids and many of the sporting breeds
ADD:what the heck rachel?!!are you kidding me yorkies aren’t good with kids, they are too fragile and may sna at kids and they need alot of grooming
Some of the best breeds are said to be: Labs (don’t slobber shed little) We have one with our 1 year old son Golden Retrievers (don’t slobber but shed) Had one when I was a kid Newfoundlands (slobber and shed) Poodles (don’t slobber shed little) English Bulldogs (slobber shed little)
What age? What activity level? How well do they listen? Ever been around dogs before? Any physical or mental handicaps?
NO one individual breed is going to be “excellent” for all children. Period. You need to evaluate your lifestyle and figure out what YOU can handle as a family – keeping in mind that it will be the ADULTS job to make sure the dog is well cared for (that means ensuring the dog gets trained, ensuring the dog gets proper exercise, feeding, grooming, etc.)
Easy to train, low shedding, no drool – good start. What about size? Coat type? Grooming? How about energy level and exercise needs? Do you want an adult or a puppy – which do you have the TIME for?
In general: breeds under 15 pounds and over 40 don’t always do well with children under six – smaller dogs are easily injured by rowdy children and bigger dogs easily injure children by being too rowdy themselves. Keep that in mind while looking around.
As wonderful as Labs and Golden Retrievers are, i would not always suggest them to first time owners with young kids – their high energy can result in knocking a young child over. They also shed buckets.
Please be sure you buy from a reputable breeder OR a rescue – no pet stores, no newspaper ads, no BYB.
Yorkshire terriers are great for kids! They’re playful and are a small size, They can be trained quite easily. Terriers are greatly recommended for families wanting a non-shedding pet. They come in 3- 7 lbs. They are extremely loyal and get along famously with other pets. They are great for the city what with their small size and really only need a small walk to get sufficient exercise. They require little grooming: regular shampoo’s and some brushing here and there. They never slobber and but will mall you with lots of kisses! hope that helped!
It really depends. There are big and small dogs that are good with kids. You should get the one based on personality and lifestyle. This thing called “find your match” really works. Try it out!
