What is the best dog food for my puppy?
Question by heather: What is the best dog food for my puppy?
I know I have to feed her puppy food now so what’s a good kind. And how about when she gets older what is a good kind after her puppy stage?
She is still eating on her moms milk right now so she has not had any food yet. I want to start her off withthe good stuff. Price is not a problem.

Ask your vet to suggest a good one. What was the breeder feeding ?
After puppy stage they go onto junior then adult.
On the packaging it tells you the different stages and when to change over.
Iams is an okay dog food. It has a lot of good stuff for a growing puppy, but it has meat biproduct in it, which is really bad. PC dog food doesn’t, and my dog really likes the taste of it. So I would recommend PC.
Well I fed mine Beneful puppy food, she is very healthy, very pretty coat. Now that she’s 14 months old I have her on adult food. Mine is a toy poodle and I read on the bag of food that they recommend big dogs to stay on puppy food until about 1-2 years old, smaller dogs can begin adult food sooner than that.
Edit – The first 10 peoples (not including me) all said HORRIBLE foods!!!
There really isn’t a *best* brand. It depends on *your* dog.
I highly recommend RAW/BARF feeding. But I wouldn’t do it until you know a lot about it.

You can start with basically any formula that is within your budget. Puppies eat a lot. Go to the grocery store and try some that is on sale. Spend your money on the shots and toys. Buy a small / medium size bag to see what the dog likes. Depending on the age you may need to add some milk to it.
Be a good owner and take the dog to the vet as needed.
Science Diet is the absolute best ~ it’s also the most expensive, so depending on what breed she is, and how big she’ll get (like how much food she’ll be eating) you can do Science Diet, or Iams.. I have a Mastiff and a Boston Terrier.. the smaller one eats SD, and the big guy eats Iams.
I use Purina ONE. It is a very good food, produces healthy coats, and all my dogs love it! The puppy food runs about $ 11 for an 8 lb. bag.
My adult dogs get fed ONE too, they particularly like the chicken and rice formula.
purina puppy chow then when she gets older, purina dog chow
