Small lap dog/toy breed dogs are good to have in an apartment, just because of their size. Here is a list of the top 10 best breeds for apartment living. You actually can have a larger breed (i’ve even seen great dane’s in apartments), but you would have to give them a lot of exercise. A Cat?
Dachshund fits for you dachshund are best for apartment and country living
Believe it or not a English Mastiff!! My Mastiff is sooo lazy! It is in their personality to just lounge around being spoiled so they don’t need a lot of room or yard even though they are massive dogs. However, when they are ready to play and love they don’t need a whole lot of room to do so, and the spurts of playfulness are short lived.
Though with any dog they do need exercise on a daily basis. (even if you have to make them get off their beds) walk, jogs, and fresh air is good for everyone!
i just got a beagle puppy a month ago and hes crazy energetic but also needs alot of attention. so unless you have alot of time for your dog don’t get a beagle(:
French bulldogs make great apartment dogs. they would be my first choice. Pugs are good, too.
Good for you for asking questions & doing research!

I would definitely not get a Jack Russell terrier. Even though they are small they need room to run. i would not recommend one for a first time owner either.
Best Wishes!
Small dog
Chihuahua
Mini husky (Alaskan Klee Kai)
Pug
Puggle

goodluck!
PUGS – They are small, amazing with kids, a little lazy though, sweet, has a short and easy to care for coat, is quiet and calm, sheds constantly, snores, can be farty, has breathing problems and their face wrinkles need special attention!
BOSTON TERRIER – Has a clown personality, small, easy to are for coat, good with kids, easy to train, responsive and friendly, polite with people and other dogs, sturdy, not a lap dog, loves to play games and fetch, hard to housebreak, gassy, snores, has breathing problems due to flat face.
BEAGLE – Good size (not too big, not too small), active, good with kids if socialized early, athletic and sturdy, good natured, bays and howls loudly and continuously, loves to play, moderate to heavy shedding, likes people, has a distinctive doggy odor!
MALTESE – Fragile, very small, bright and playful, prone to separation anxiety, hard to house break, sheds little to no hair, need daily grooming and brushing unless the dog has the puppy cut, cute face and expressive eyes, polite with people and other animals, good with kids.
DACHSHUND – Curious, lively and charming, stubborn, can be a little snappy if spoiled while puppy-hood, loyal, comical, has a regal appearance, good size, has several health issues due to long body, hard to house break, long life.
WEST HIGHLAND WHITE TERRIER (WESTIE) – Small, yet sturdy and tough, dynamic terrier personality of big dog in a little body, keen watchdog, doesn’t shed much, strong chasing instincts, regular brushing, has some health issues, stubborn but good with kids!
If you look into a reputable shelter, i bet you can find an amazing dog, who might already be trained!
Don’t go to pet shops, find your perfect pooch at a shelter or get him from a reputable breeder.
And remember, no dog may adhere to breed standards and don’t breed dogs!
Also, don’t leave dogs for more than 5 hours (puppies no more than 3 hours) alone at home!
Dont get a puppy because its really small because most of them bark a lot
Hope I helped you
any of the toy breeds would be perfect
Affenpinscher
Brussels Griffon
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Chihuahua
Chinese Crested
English Toy Spaniel
Havana Silk Dog
Havanese

Maltese
Miniature Pinscher
Papillon
Pekingese
Pomeranian
Poodle – Toy
Pug
Shih Tzu
Silky Terrier
Toy Fox Terrier

just make sure you get it from a good breeder or shelter. NO pet stores and stay far away from “designer dogs” trust me and then you will have a great time with your dog
