Question by nonya: What is a good training DVD to train a hyper puppy?
My puppy is 11 months old and is a hyper mess. She barks, jumps, growls, pulls on leash, etc… At this point the only thing she knows how to do is sit, but she won’t sit still for long. She knows when to go into her crate too. Other than that though, she just does what she wants for the most part. I need major help. I was going to do training classes at PetSmart or Petco, but she’s horrible around other dogs. I think the other dogs will be a major distraction for her. I’d love to do 1-on-1 training, but I can’t afford that. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Honestly, I think the classes would still be the best bet for you. In addition to learning basic commands, your puppy will learn how to behave around other dogs. The group classes are good for socialization, which it sounds like she needs.

Don’t waste your money with petsmart. What you need to do is start watching The Dog Whisperer, he really has some good ideas and techniques. In the meanwhile, start a dog training trust fund. You will really benefit from one on one training. With one on one training, I find that the owners are the ones who ususally get the most of out the sessions. The dog always picks up the training in the first few minutes, and it’s the owners who need to be told what to do and not to do, over and over.
