What breeds would fit this criteria?
Question by Pack Leader <3 Prong collars!: What breeds would fit this criteria?
I am looking for a dog that is at least 50lbs. I don’t mind shedding but it needs to have a short coat. I want one that is hyper active and is willing to please. It can have a stubborn streak though. I want a dog with endurance. I will be home often and I will take the dog jogging at least 2 miles everyday. I want to be able to teach the dog competitive sports such as agility, K9 freestyle, obedience, and etc. I don’t want a dog with a super soft temperament. I don’t want a Lab. I have some breeds in mind. I also don’t want any breeds such as Rottweiler, Belgian Malinois, or German Shepherd because I will be getting one of these breeds in future and will be training in schutzhund. Thanks.
Properly bred Pits and Staffys aren’t over 50lbs. Collies don’t have a short coat. Mastiffs would not be able to do the competitive sports, are not highly intelligent, and are not hyper active. I have been thinking about the Dalmatian. I will also consider the Boxer. I won’t be adopting. I will be getting this dog from a reputable breeder so I will get the temperament that I want and be genetic health testing done.
The Collie has too soft of a temperment. Plus Border Collies and Australian Shepherds don’t meet the weight requirement.

boxers, pits, and staffies fit that description
What do you think? Answer below!

border collie
Definitely a boxer.
Probably boxer, collie, pit bull, Mastiffs, GO TO YOUR SHELTER. you can find the perfect mixed breed dog with a great temperament and exactly what you’re looking for [:
Boxers or Dalmatians would fit this criteria. But do MORE research if you want to get the perfect dog. Make sure you adopt from a shelter.
Honestly I thought of a Dobe.
Great endurance, short coated, great working dog and you can do obedience or schutzhund with it.
American pit Bull Terriers
They aim to please and are very athletic.
Your best option is a collie, probably a border collie will be the best.
beagles
Boxer or Staffie. Both full of energy (mostly boxer) and easy to train when you put them to work!
English Bull Terrier- the most hyperactive stubborn breed you will find but also fiercely loyal. Mine loves running the quicker and further the better.
What about a Smooth Collie (short coat)?
You can actually get a Border Collie with short coats. They don’t all have long coats. GreyHounds are fun and athletic. You can also get an Australian Shepherd or an English Shepherd. Those two dogs are excellent and athletic companions.
Saw this dog on an Animal Show and this would be perfect with what you decribe..

Airedale Terrier might be a good choice. Males are generally 50+ pounds and are very active.
A GSD mabay
Consider a Catahoula Leopard Dog or Weimaraner
Weimaraner
So far the only suggestions I have seen that fit are the ones who suggested the Dobe (although unsure about the endurance for running or suitability for agility) and the Wiem.
There is always the Rhodesian Ridgeback. That is on my list of love to own some day. 2 miles is nothing for this breed. I am not sure how well they would fair in some of your other activities though.
american bulldog, or giant Schnauzer
Still voting for the border collie even though it doesn’t meet your criteria. I would guess you should choose the dalmatian over the Boxer, I can’t stand boxers.
Just thought I might mention that border collies are often over 50 lbs, and the average Australian shepherd weighs about 60.
A boxer or a smooth coat collie.
