Rick Schubert dog trainer?
Question by HowSilly: Rick Schubert dog trainer?
Has anyone heard of a man named Rick Schubert out of upstate NY? I have been looking into his methods to help with my dog and I have a very good feeling about him. I talked at length with him and fully agree with his philosophy. He does not believe in bullying a dog or bribing with treats but rather gaining a genuine respect and trust from the dog.
I saw both his personal dogs and clients dogs and they were all very confident, happy and obedient.
I am pretty much sold on going with him as a trainer but I have heard so many nightmare stories about people trusting trainers and their dogs ending up scared from the experience. I have no reason what so ever to distrust him but I just wanted to know if anyone has any experience with him. My dog is extremely important to me and I just want to make sure I cover all bases.
Thank you in advance.
Ps he does compete in protection dog competitions as well but I am going to him for obedience only.

Never heard of him, but the “philosophy” is very vague.
If he does not use treats, how does he motivate? What does he consider to be “bullying”?
How does he gain that “genuine respect” and what is his definition of that term?
When you are surrendering a dog to a trainer, you need to have better information than what you posted.
I recommend you WATCH him train other dogs before you hire him.
If you are going for obedience only, seems like kind of a waste for him, and you. He may not be very committed to someone who only wants obedience if he competes. You may even be passed to one of his employees for the training.
