Question about obedience classes for a beagle….?
Question by Bluieblue22: Question about obedience classes for a beagle….?
I have a 9 week old beagle puppy and I know she is WAY too young to go to classes obviously, but I just wanted to know what the required, youngest age possible she can be. For the type of obedience class, I was just thinking of a basic one from a pet store, where they learn sit, stay, lie down, a trick and how to walk on the leash better. I just want to know the youngest age possible, so she can be a better house dog, and more relaxed and calm, not like she needs to bite everything in sight and runs around the couches like a maniac. Also please no comments about that she is a puppy, that’s they way they should act, ect. I get that she is just a puppy and she is energetic. I just want to have a friendlier more pleasing to be around kinda dog.

Beagles and obedience do not belong in the same sentence. I do miss my Beagle.
Once the dog gets all it’s shots she should be ready to go. Call a few places, school makes a big difference in a dog. It is a worthwhile short term thing to do that doesn’t leave you with a dog, it leaves you with a best friend.
As soon as your dog has had all of her shots she can begin attending classes. Do not go to a chain type store for classes though, call around…do some research and find a reputable trainer in your area that uses a “leadership” type method. Never let anyone tell you that a dog should be trained with food or punishment! Be prepared to have a lot of work to do though…beagles can be a little stubborn in training and you may need to take her through more than once, so look for a trainer that offers repeat classes at no or minimal added charge….remember, training is a life long endeavor that strengthens the bond between you and your dog, but can not be given short cuts if you want your dog to succeed. There is no such thing as a “bad” dog, only untrained/undertrained dogs AND their people…if your dog is naughty, chances are it is your fault : )
