You want a book specific to the type of dog and the kind of training you want to do. General info can be helpful, but you can get all you want on the internet by using a search engine and asking questions like “how do I teach my border collie to roll over and play dead” or whatever you want.
I would go to an established pet store and ask around about what book is best for exactly what you want, or even take part in training classes like they have at pets mart (or was that pets tupid? … sometimes).

Personally, I think the Dummies books are the best place to start. That’s what I always recommend.
All the Starter gear kits and DVD’s by Karen Pryor.
