Q&A: Toilet training a puppy outside?
Question by Paul H: Toilet training a puppy outside?
Hi, I have a 12 week old Cavalier King Charles. We’ve had him for 3 weeks now and have trained him to go toilet on training pads in the house. He’s had his booster shots now so is able to go outside so how do we go about training him to go outside? We’re to stay in my aunty’s house next week and I’m bringing him with me so I’m hoping he’ll be trained by then, do you think it’s possible? Thank you for any advice/tips!

Take your dog out every 1.5 hours. Then, you will know his potty patterns. Also, 10 minutes after he eats, take him out. See what happens. Good luck.
You should have been taking him outside as soon as you got him. Just because he didn’t have his shots didn’t mean that he couldn’t go outside at all. It just means keep him on your property and away from other dogs. Training pads are the dumbest things ever.
Put your dog on a leash and take him outside every 3 hours and 1 hour after meals. Feed him in the morning and evening. Buy a crate and crate train him. Put him in the crate whenever you can’t watch him. First thing in the morning take him outside on leash. Back inside feed him and have some play time with him. The last time he should be taken out is just before bed and then put in the crate to sleep for the night. Keep the crate in your bedroom.
I have crate trained two dogs and neither one of them have ever peed or pooped in my home.
Hi. I have a Chihuahua who is now 16 months old. I trained her to go outside from the very first day I had her. What my family and I did to train her was to take her outside every 30 minutes or so, my dog had a very small bladder, and then say washroom, bathroom, potty, or whatever word you would like your dog to respond to. If he goes, praise him and give him a treat. Eventually, my puppy learned to go to the door and she’ll either whine or scratch until we let her out. This worked really well for my family and I. My puppy trained really fast but every dog is different. I think that he might possilby be trained by then, but since you’ll be in a different house, you’ll have to watch him. I hope this helps! Good luck and congratulations on your new puppy!
