Q&A: red-nose pitbull puppy training?
Question by nonof yo biz: red-nose pitbull puppy training?
i got a red-nose pitbull from my uncle. i got her when she was 6weeks old. now she’s 9 weeks and i want to start training her. i already when she bites hold her nose and say no.(does that help by the way) i was looking a way to train her to not bite. and i want to teach her how to sit and all those tricks. but i dont know what to do for the bitting. she’s already locking her jaw. and sometime i cant get her off my cloths. i dont want to hold her mouth. and when i do she still goes to bite. she left me a couple scars already. any help on what to do. she is also very stubborn. once she sees something she doesnt want to leave it i have to pick her up and carry her for a block or 2. when i pick her up she bites me. sometimes she’s good and all but i want her to be good all the time not so aggressive. any help? thanks

Your uncle did you no favors by letting you have the puppy FAR too young. Had he kept her with her littermates, THEY would have been teaching her bite inhibition.
Will your uncle not help you train the dog? She sound like she is far more than you can handle. I suggest you take her back to your uncle and get another dog.

First thing first. Pit bulls do NOT lock their jaws. Don’t say things like that because it just keeps stupid myths like that spreading.
Holding her nose and saying no isn’t going to do anything for you. You can try a high pitched “yelp” and turning away from her when she bites. Ignoring bad behavior and rewarding correct behavior is the way to go. You can also try a water squirt bottle. She bites, simply squirt her and ignore until she calms down.
She’s a puppy that was taken away from her litter way too young. Bite inhabitian is one of the reasons why puppies need to stay with their litter mates until at least 8 weeks. Get used to being nipped as she is a puppy all the same. They bite, its how they communicate.
As a pit bull owner, you need to put extra effort into socialization. With strangers, other dogs (VERY IMPORTANT), and other animals. Make sure that once she has ALL of her puppy shots (not one set, but all three) that you take her to pet safe areas and allow her to interact. Also, make sure to have her spayed before 6 months of age. This helps in training because lord knows females in heat are not going to listen.
