Question by ladyatl16: How much does my puppy need to sleep? How do I know if she her sleeping habits are normal? She is a 8 week old Labrador/Retriever Mix. I just want to make sure she is sleeping normal. She sleeps most of the day and is only playful for about 3-4 hours in a 24 hour day!? Is this normal?

Answer by peggysus absolutely normal. when i first got my puppy, he only woke up long enough to eat and go potty before taking another nap. as he got older he slept less and played more, so no worries =)

yup, we have two labs, 4 and 2. Puppies, especially bigger sized puppies need a lot of sleep, usually that much. But if you are concerned go to the vet, she needs to be eating 3x per day and drinking water too. If she is sleeping and not eating that is a very bad thing go to the vet!
Young puppies are good doorstops most of the day. She’s probably really not sleeping all that time, just laying around. 3-4 hours of play time is about enough. If she doesn’t perk up in a few weeks, ask the vet about her.
