Q&A: How do you stop a dog from pooping in the house?
Question by kermit21km: How do you stop a dog from pooping in the house?
My (almost) 2 yr old dog has started to go poop under my dining room table. I’ve tried everything (sprays, carpet cleaners for pets) but nothing works. Any ideas? I’m getting desperate!

train to go outside
check for medical problem if he just started
if you offer free feeding method (leaving food out all the time,) stop.
If you feed on a schedule, the dog will be likely to take a poop right after its meals.Give the dog the its morning serving of food, and then right after it finshes its meal, take it for a walk to allow for a poop & pee. Then repeat in the evening.
put his face in it then put him out side
So first when the dog goes poop if he is looking at u then he or she is mad at u
If that’s why then spend more time with him and if he gos out side to go poop or pp ythen go out side with him till he’s done then bring him I and give him a treat
If he goes in the house then grabe him by the back of the neck and shove his face I mean do let the poop get on him just show it buy making him look by it then hit him but don’t hirt I’m.
Then look him out side for like 5 min and if u can’t leave him by himself then show him where u want him to poop then bring him in and but him in a cage
I hope I help and don’t give up….
You can try and learn the dogs behavior, before having to relief themselves they usually will give a warning sign by either sniffing the area before going, circling the area or barking to the closest door. He/she may have a sickness that may be causing the urgent relieving of themselves. I would take to a Vet and see if anything may be wrong. On the other hand… Do you have any new house guests or someone even being pregnant that is close to this dog. We had a cat once when I was younger and she was my step moms and the cat would only sleep on her belly or snuggle with her but once she was pregnant the cat started to pee and poo at random places throughout the house and we had no idea why until the pregnancy was over. Could be a far shot but from experience with animals there is always a signal they are sending and you must try and figure out what it is. I hope I helped and this is just from experience and I am not an expert this is only an opinion. GOOD LUCK!
Dogs don’t usually poop where ‘their’ food is. Strange thing to do moving their food bowl around but definately agree with regular meal times as someone has suggested, along with putting his/her food bowl in same area and doing these both should help. I heard pepper can also help. Putting pepper on their poop and showing them, they won’t like. Usually works best if catching them in the act, which doesn’t help for the ones you wake up to find! Look for signs of wanting to go to loo like dog walking in circles, nose to the ground. Good verbal rewards, treats and patting when going in the right place outside. Move his poop to the area outside to show him maybe? Some ideas i have tried, others i have only heard of doing, so good luck!
He must be a small dog. A half hour after he eats take him out until he goes poo either outside or on a wee pad. It is difficult to discuss the problem with little information. Do not let him near the dining table. He feels secure and protected there. Can you alter where the table is? If the chairs are under the table can they go some where else? Can you fix it so that he does not feel so protected and safe under the table? I would have the carpet professionally cleaned and not let the dog near the dining area. If the table is in daily use why is he interested? Is it a frequently used or rarely used dining area?
the best way to fix that problem is to give your dog basic personal training including potty training. This would be very easy because dogs are fast learners so it could be a fun and a bonding experience as well for you and your dog. I recommend that you watch my dog training video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncUgmH4HZh4 it will help you know what is the appropriate training method for your dog and how to do it effectively. Have fun with the dog training!
