move the pads closer and closer to the door, until you have the pad outside, you will need to keep a close eye on her/him though. and eventually she/he will move with the pad outside, then make the pad smaller and smaller (by cutting it) until she/he is using the grass instead. this may take a week or more, and lots of patience.

Everytime you see it getting ready to potty — march it right outside to the grass. Say good boy and make it an enjoyable experience (add a treat if you have to).
Put the pad in front of the back door. (you might want to start using the front door during the process.) After the puppy gets used to using it, start placing it just outside the door, so the pup can smell it, and will scratch the door to try to get to it. Then, it is a matter of inching the pad into the yard in a designatid area. After the pup is officially house broke, you don’t have to use the pad anymore. But for mantaining purposes, you could leave one in the yard held down by a rock.
Hi …. i have 2 fm Shih tzu their now 7 yrs old … they are very smart and learn very quickly … i have had them sents they were
about 10 weeks old … what you need to do is take the pup outside often … after the pup does his business…. always commend him are her “Good Dog” “Good Boy” are Girl”
pat him gently on the head / be patience … about a week are two
again they learn quickly ..never be mean.. Shih tzu are sensitive
when ever you see them squat … rush em outside …be nice be patience . Shih tzu’s are great housedogs . Good Luck
First of all, how much are you with the dog? If you are with the dog constantly, move the pads closer to the door you are taking him out, and take him outside every couple hours. If you can’t be with him all the time, gradually move the pads closer to the door each day until you get to the door, and then start taking him outside. Let him run around in the grass as long as he wants so he can get the feel of the grass, and what it’s like to be outside. Be sure to praise him each time he goes outside w/ a treat and telling him he’s a good boy. Be patient w/ your pup, as he is new too. Schitzuz are very good learners, and are a very happy dog. With any luck, in about a week or so, you should be on your way to housebreaking your pup. Good luck!
