I would always tell me dog “nuh uh” really sternly and kind of clap my hands. She responded really well to that. A bit of a startling noise to get their attention and a stern voice from you will tell your puppy that you mean business. Now that my dog is older all I have to do is start to say “uh..” and she stops whatever she is doing.
You have to pick one word that lets her know she is in trouble. No is just simple to use all the time. You have to have a strong kinda mad voice when you say it so you get her atttention and backs off. If you do not get her attention you will have to tap her on the hip. Im not saying swat her or hit her just tap her to get her attention, so she knows not to do that again.
I always say “aah aah” rather than no – if you continue to use it he will quickly learn to associate the noise with something you don’t want him to do
Also, at this point don’t punish him for doing something bad – he’s probably a little disoriented. He’s away from his mum and littermates and in a scary new house. When he settles in (and you will tell because suddenly he will be doing everything he didn’t have the guts to do before!) you can start to spray him with water or something like that.
There are some really excellent dog training courses out there you can use. Although, be careful – there are some really awful ones too that aren’t worth the money. Here’s one of the GOOD ones!

Just say no its not cruel to give your dog limits. We all have to have limits.
