I have 2 yellow lab puppies. They are trained enough to go outside without leashes and go potty. I live in the country, not close to people, but one of the puppies thinks that its all right to run away and play keep away. I call Sunny, come here and he acts like he doesn’t hear me. The other one hears me and sits down where he is, and eventually comes. I need help with the other puppy, I want them to be more obedient and come when they are called and not find it as a game.
Thanks for all the help on the puppy training. I don’t know if I can choose the best answer, they were all good. My puppies are leash trained, and come well, it’s just they like to run away from me. I have noticed that if I turn my back to them they come. Thanks once again for the helpful information.

Well whenever you call your dog to come always call it towards the house so it will know to always come there. Your dog can learn to come to first start training to to come on an leash. get a long leash and some treats, call the dog while it is on the leash and when it comes give it a treat. practice this a few time a day. You can still let him outside just make sure you give him a treat for coming to you. It works for my puppy. Good luck!

You will need to back to step one. Walk your dogs on a leash. Then work with each individually. Use a long leash, make your dog sit or lay down, then walk away a bit. Stop and say come. If your dog comes, praise with a high pitched voice and loving. If he does not, gently pull him towards you repeating come, until he get to you. Then praise, praise praise.
Also, any time your dog comes to you, praise with a gentle voice. Barking a command and sounding upset will not make them come, just the opposite. You will need to do this several times a day, and stick to it.
Interesting thing about dogs. While your dog may seem not to get it one day, they will the next. Be patient. Do not punish with anything more then a firm, deep toned, voice. Praise with higher pitched voice and lovings.
I would so recommend clicker training the puppy. If you have not heard of clicker training it is using a clicker that you could buy from petsmart or your local pet store. Then when you say a command like “come” to the puppy and if he comes you click the clicker now this helps him understand that if he hears the click he did the command right and if he does not hear it he did it incorrect. Now once you click the clicker for good behavior you reward him with a training treat which you can also get from a pet store. And if he does it incorrectly you do not click nore give the treat. Then you just repeat it till he gets t message. I knew a yellow lab named Sunny before when i was little but Ibelievee he has now passed. But i love the name sunny for a yellow lab.
It is all because of the attention you give him when he plays keep away. Put him on a leash when he goes potty or try and give him a treat whenever he is done outside. Remember he is still only a puppy and it is never OK to beat young dogs. That makes them afraid of you. Puppies have the attention span of toddlers and they wont know why you hit them.
Keep your dog on a really long leash and when he hides, call his name and pull on his leash so he will come back and when he gets back to the house give him a treat so he knows when he hears his name being called he will get a treat and will have something to look forward to when he comes back to the house. Keep doing this for about 1 week and then try taking him off the leash. If it still doesn’t work put him back on the leash and try again.

My family has black labs and they are very smart dogs. However, any breed of dog needs some form of training. cuz you are just reinforcing that when you call, just stay where you are.
what you do is just turn your back away (yes, weird but it works) and “dig” and make it look very very interesting.
your dog will think that ‘oh it looks like fun, i need to see what it is’ and come to you.
give your dog lots of treats
