Question by : Please I NEED your opinion?
I have a choice between buying a Miniature Pinscher and a Jack Russel, they are both headstrong animals with loads of energy… which breed is most sutable for a one bedroom appartment with a small tiled fenced yard?
Also since I know they are crazy little animals I am willing to take the dog out for walks and jogs about 3 times a week… and i will take them to puppy obedience school, but either way when i buy a dog its for the long run, so which breed is best for my living condition

Get a chihuahua!!!!!!:) They are the best!
What do you think? Answer below!

both have lots of energy. I had a Jack Russel Terrier and ended up giving him to a family with a big yard and alot of house. My two bedroom apartment was too small for him. I would walk and run him.. It just wasnt enough.
A lady I used to work for kept 4 Jack Russels in her apartment, but she was able to bring them to work with her so she did not usually have to leave them at home alone.
I think that the MinPin is a bit quieter (less yappy) and calmer than the JRT, so they might be a better choice for you, but you would be best to talk to people that actually own them.
There are Yahoo Groups for most breeds out there, why not try to find some for MinPins and JRTs and talk to the people thereÉ
Jack Russels seem to be very hyperactive, a one bedroom might not be enough room for him. I haven’t been around mini pinschers so I can’t comment on them.
Well, I know people will say ‘either one’ but, I say ‘neither one’. I think you should consider a more docile breed. Get a dog book or go to the library and get one. Research the toy breeds or even other small breeds. There are quite a few very nice toy breeds and they are not ‘sissy dogs’. Good luck.
Between the two, the Miniature Pinscher might be a better choice.
But personally, I would say neither one. Both are just what you say, headstrong and very energetic, and it doesn’t sound like you have very suitable living quarters for either breed. I would recommend some other breed. If you’re interested in buying a purebred dog, then search “dog breed selector” on any search engine and take a few quizzes to get some ideas on which breed might be right for you.
Never get a certain breed just because it happens to be available. You’ll be living with that dog for the next 14 years or more. Make sure it’ll be pleasant for both you and the dog by making a good decision from the start.
Well the JR will hit your wallet harder… i had a MP mix, and she did fine at home, i know that JR’s do alot better with other dogs around, while my MP seemed to be just fine by herself.
If i were you I would go to the local pet store and ask them, they would know best, either that or call your local vet, they will give you the best unbiased awnser, while a pet store owner might be looking to make an extra buck.
I don’t know much about MinPins, but I do know that a JRT wouldn’t be a very good choice. They need walked more than 3 times a week.. try twice a day. Of the two I would go with the Miniature Pinscher.
Why is it a choice between those two? If I were you I would get a more low key dog, possibly an adult from the shelter.
walking them 3 times a week isnt enough, i’d mine 3 times a day like your supposed to.
It sounds to me like you’ve done the right research!
Both are wonderful dogs! Can you meet the potential pups and see which one you connect with? lol…just becareful you don’t end up with both!!!
three times a week won’t be enough for breeds like this unless you’re getting an older, more mature animal. I would suggest that instead of letting your desire to own a dog that’s not appropriate for your situation guide you that you look for a more logical choice. There are literally hundreds of types of dogs out there for all types of lifestyles. Better to make a wise choice now and get a dog that’s appropriate for your situation rather than get a dog that ends up being frustrated due to lack of exercise and decides to ‘redecorate’ your apartment on a regular basis.
If you want a dog that you can train to catch balls and or Frisbees in the air, jump through hoops and what not choose the Jack! They to me are the better of the two and far sweeter and better looking! Like you said they are both high energy dogs, personally I think the Jack is far more intelligent
I see many Jack Russells at work and some Mini Pins, if I had to make the choice between the two, I would take a Mini Pin. Jacks are way to hyper for my taste. Good Luck.
