My dog seems to be depressed… what should I do?
Question by Aussies Kita A-BOB!: My dog seems to be depressed… what should I do?
I know that this seems strange, but I am being sincere. We recently moved out so that I can finish up my bachelors at the university. My dog isn’t used to being home alone, and she usually has two other dogs to romp around with at home. Today is her longest day alone, I am gone from 9-4 on Thursdays.
She is far from neglected. She gets walks, we play ball and frisbee, we take agility, flyball, rally o and conformation classes. We work on tricks and do a lot of training. But she has just seemed “off” all week. She won’t get pumped up, she won’t get excited. I mean, she is excited to see me when I get home, but then she just lays down. I want my hyper aussie back! She is being far to mellow, and I don’t like it one bit.
She is also just coming out of season… could that still be affecting her?
What should I do to help her get her drive and happiness back?

well, make sure your’e walkes arn’t just…teenie tinie. an hour would be good reallly. And I suggest, get another dog! or it might be that you’re dog is getting older. Aftr 2 years they start to settle down, then at 7-9 years they begin to get oldr. An aussie is very very hyper. And if u maybe had a fenced in yard, a big 1, that would help.
Aww poor girl… She obviously is bummed that your gone so long and she has no playmates to be with… getting another dog would probably cure her, but you probably can’t do that so.. your best bet would be to call a behaviorist and ask them for there advice on depressed dogs. Other then that.. maybe it could be a health problem that has arise? it’s unlikely, but it’s better to be safe then sorry, right?
Good luck and I hope your girl gets back to her normal self real soon
