Question by Anna Banana: I have a 15 week old puppy and I am looking for some good training dvds. Any sugjestions?
My husband and I tried Pet Smart’s puppy training and we were not impressed. The staff was very unhelpful and the lessons were very unstructured.
I really want to train our dog but not with expensive classes that don’t seem to work. My husband is at his wits end with some of his behaviors and we have tried our best to work with him. At this point I am willing to try anything…. please let me know if you have any advice! (he is a jack russel/ rat terrier mix approx. 15 week old.)

I just got a puppy myself but i just trained him myself. if its peein and poopin gotta take the pup out about once every hr or so 2 get it use to goin outside. praising the dog when it uses the bathroom. as for sittin and layin down, i just took some of his food and just told him down or sit and give him a piece of the food and move to a different location and do it again, i did that for a good straight 30 min and did it so often the next couple of days 2 remember. i know jack russ’s are very energetic. if the pup isnt doin somthign right make sure u say badboy/girl makin ur tone different.
WHoaaa…. you have a little stick of dy-no-mite on your hands
Talk about high energy dogs.
You will first have to play 15 mins of ball with him… use the 2 ball approach and some training can be done “while playing”.
After some rigorous play then you can teach some obedience. Keep it to small sessions only about 5 mins long… always end on a happy note… so he looks forward to learning again… like small games that he wins as soon as he obeys the command… in the beginning keep sessions short and expand them once he knows what he is doing.
I like the BH obedience which is done in Schutzhund. Many dogs come just for obedience and agility and tracking without even ever acquiring Sch titles. Little Bucky will usually win the big tracking trophy and has earned every title to be had… wonderful little dog….
Hope This Helps You Some

Leerburg has training videos for the working dogs.
David Dikeman’s command performance Videos Vol 1 & 2 are great for the all around obedience training.
