How would I go about training my Shih Tzu puppy?
Question by [ Adam ]: How would I go about training my Shih Tzu puppy?
I want to train my dog, but seems a little stubbern. Obviously I go on google to see if theres any tips, but I cant really find any, but like most anything online the good stuff is usually hidden, and take time to look for. But thats why i have yahoo answers!
So anyways, if you have a Shih Tzu, and youve trained him/her, can you give me any tips and tricks? Any would be appreciated.
Obidence Training, I know I can go and buy it, but I would like to see if I could myself first.

Shih Tzus are not trained any differently to any other breed or cross breed.
Book into you local obedience club, they will have classes there to teach you how to train your dog.
Basics: Sit, Lie, and Stay. Are all your dog needs to know. To sit place a treat above his nose. To lie down, have your dog in sitting position and slowly move the treat downwards. To stay have your dog lie/sit and move back one step and if does not follow you give him the treat. Then, do 2,3,4… steps. Also, say the command and after your dog does it correctly treat him/her. Remember that it takes a long time to train dogs. And the Shih Tzu are a smart and feisty breed. Be patient and calm, but firm as well. Good Luck!
Theyre trained the same way as every dog is go to a local training company or try petsmart or petco
First thing – this should be a warning to everyone reading this. Waiting until AFTER the dog is in your home to start wondering how you’ll train it is absolutely the wrong approach. BEFORE you bring a dog home, you need to know EXACTLY what the game plan is for socializing it and training it to be a good family member and neighborhood citizen.
My advice now is to find a professional trainer who will work with YOU and the dog – in essence teaching you how to train your dog. ShihTzus ARE stubborn as a breed – it’s too much for you to bite off relying on Internet advice. Hire a pro and wind up with a good companion for life. Good luck to you.
lol we newspaper trained mine xD
it reaally help with her peeing everywhere
put it in the dogs box when there little and still need a box
then when they’re a bit older put it somwhere in the house ( bathroom maybe? )
altho take ur dog outside and congradulate when it gos… atlest every day if not it can mess up trainin
then after 2,3 or even 4 weeks move the paper outside ( by the door or grass/dirt/rocks/ect )
when you’re sure ur pup is ready remove the newspaper
there might still be a few accidents in the house but keep trying
PS you did say any hints :] GOOD LICK :]
When you post a question in dogs, it helps us if we know the age of the puppy and the breed. Some things about training just come with age, some things are 111-weeks-old, some things are more like 4 or 5-months-old. You can use search answers on this site and look up what you are wanting to train. Look up potty training, house training, leash training, barking, biting, jumping, you didn’t tell us what you needed help with.
