How to toilet train my 3month old puppy?
Question by amber: How to toilet train my 3month old puppy?
We have just decided to adopt a new puppy. Mia is a Silky Terrier x Jack Russell, &she’s only 3 months old. We think that she may have been an inside dog since she always wants to be around us, and jumps up onto the glass door wanting to come inside. We want to toilet train her, so that she doesn’t leave little suprises in out house. How can we train her so that she knows that it’s bad to do her number 1′s & 2′s inside? And how can we teach Mia so that she doesn’t jump on the glass door? Thanks

Take her outside every half hour and praise her when she goes. Crate her when you’re not able to supervise.
When does she jump on the glass door? I do hope she is not an “outside dog”… a 3 month old puppy is way too young to be left out by herself.

I used to be SO against crate-training. I thought it was cruel, when in actuality, if done correctly it is an awesome way to train your puppy.
Just Google crate training and you will find a wealth of info. on it.
As an added note, also Google NILIF or Nothing In Life Is Free. It is an AWESOME program for dogs. (No I am not in any way affiliated with it, but it did wonders for mine).
…..
… and I’m with poster above … a three-month old is too young to leave outside so I am assuming you do so only when you send her out to potty? If this is the case, you are doing things incorrectly and you need to WATCH her do her business and then praise her. Seriously, google crate-training and PLEASE google NILIF. Seems as if you could benefit from the great information it provides. Good luck.
I have been going through the same thing . The best way that’s working for me is to keep saying go potty and place her on the pad if she pees sum where else immiditly place her back on the pad and keep repeating that.. If she does go on pad reward her with a treat and tell her good girl or boy
Stay with her when she’s outside. Try and stay a distance away from her–give her “space” to go–this is her privacy. As she gets older, she may not even want you to look at her when she goes. I had a lab and a cockapoo at the same time–females–and they were modest. If they knew I was watching them, they would just hang their heads in shame. Female dogs can be so modest.
Praise her after she goes, play with her a little, then go in. On your way in if she jumps on the door, remove her gently and say “NO NO or whatever commands you use. She will learn in time, and in time she can go out alone IF YOUR YARD IS FENCED.
Remember, she’s still in a NEW home, so a little insecure yet. It’s like being the adopted child.

The best way to stop a dog from jumping on a door is to open it and let them in.
