How to stop puppy from biting her leash?
Question by Lisa: How to stop puppy from biting her leash?
I’m trying to train my Cavalier King Charles puppy (3 months) to walk on her leash, but she keeps on biting the leash and tugging on it. How do I stop her from doing that?

That picture looks hot.
Hit the mutt until he stops.
With like a newspaper, but roll it up first.

really you can’t all dogs do it
but if you have to just pull they leash from her and tell her no
I had the exact problem! There are several sollutions. Always hold the lead over its head so it can’t see it. When it tugs on it just stop and ignore it untill it stops, When it stops feed it a treat and praise it.
She’s playing because it’s very interesting and gets a reaction. When she does that, just drop it and walk away(meaning you have to train in your house or backyard). She’ll learn that by biting the leash, the fun stops.
if you get a chain leash with a hand grip at the to when the dog bites the leash all she’ll get is a mouth full of metal and she’ll stop biting it.
Please do not adopt the brutal and punitive methods some of these idiots are advising.
Silver has the right idea.
Once the puppy realises that her actions put a stop to the fun, she will learn to walk properly.
You could also train her to follow you in your home or yard (where it is safe) without a lead to start with. Using treats and a trigger word like “Good”, get her to watch you and when she is in the right place, beside your left leg, at that moment say “Good” and treat all in one action!
Walk a few steps and repeat ONLY when she is where she should be, then start to walk in circles and keep repeating. Little and oftem so that she watches you, your hand and followis you without any force. Keep training pleasant and positive and she will soon learn.
Enrol in puppy socialising and early obedeince classes. You will both learn and enjoy the experience.
Good luck.
