How to outdoor potty train a paper trained puppy?
Question by KAR36: How to outdoor potty train a paper trained puppy?
My new 9 week old puppy is very well trained to go to the bathroom on newspaper only.
I have a “litter box” and I put the paper in it and he goes in that.
I try taking him outside but he sees it as a “play place” only and won’t go out there.
I did not paper train him but the breeder did.
What do I do if I want him to learn to go to the bathroom outside?
I am taking him outside 4 times a day right now.
He will be in his crate at night and also has a puppy playpen with the crate and box in there.

take the box outside next time you go. when he goes in that out side praise him a ton, and keep doing that after a while take the box away and he will get it eventually.

Maybe you can remove the litter box and take him for as many walks as possible. He should eventually relieve himself out side. When he does, give him a small treat and praise him and pet him every time he does that. Keep the paper out during the night and try to walk him at certain times to help him learn a routine. Once he gets used to it, you can keep the paper inside at all times. Make sure to praise him when you see him relieving himself inside too. If you still can’t get him to go outside, talk to the breeder, any friends who also have a dog, or a local pet store.
