How to Build a Dog Bad Behavior Stopper for Pennies?
Question by Aleasha C: How to Build a Dog Bad Behavior Stopper for Pennies?
I’ve heard that you can stop bad behavior in dogs by shaking pennies. But, what do I put the pennies into? Does this actually work? Has anyone ever tried this?

You put them in a pop can and then shake it . It never worked for me when I tried it on my dogs. But then again they are spoiled rotten. lol

It does work but your timing has to be very precise! If the dog has already finished the bad behavior, you’re too late. You have to always catch him in the act. The can with pennies is good as a distraction from what he is doing. Don’t forget that you need to show him what you DO want him to do and reward him when he’s being nice.
Can you say spray bottle. It has worked for me. But don’t just spray for anything. Only bad behavior and only a quick spray.
Unless you have a very noise sensitive dog, generally this type of ‘training’ does not work. The basis behind the pennies in a can is to throw them off guard and stop them from displaying a particular behaviour at that moment in time. It may startle them at first, but tends to lose its effectiveness after a couple of times when they realize that the noise is the only consequence for their behaviour. A much BETTER way to deal with the situation is to verbally correct them and then re-direct their attention onto an object or behaviour that IS acceptable.
You should watch The Dog Whisperer and It’s Me or the Dog…
Caesar Milan and Victoria Stillwell simply make a sound with their mouth INSTANTLY upon start of bad actions to get the dog’s attention. They respond fast with noise and as they make the noise, they also make corrective action, depending on what the dog is doing. -!-
Noise distraction is just one training method, I have never needed to use it, but I guess it works for certain types of behavior modification.
