Question by Snickies: How do you housetrain a puppy that whines when you put him in a crate.?
No matter how long he is in the crate he will whine consistantly. He starts doing real good about asking to go out, but then will relapse and pee on the carpet without asking to go out. Help!!!!!

Let him whine. He will eventually stop. I’m sure if you put him in a crate and leave the house he does not whine the entire time.
He probably doesn’t know yet that he is supposed to ask to go out. That concept takes a long time for a puppy to master. Just keep taking him out every couple of hours, especially when he wakes up from naps and after he eats and drinks. He will eventually get the hang of it.

just ignore him he will eventually stop whining cause no one really cares and when he pees on carpet scold him repeatedly trust me it will work
u see whatcha gots ta do is when you let him out and he goes on the carpet or anywhere else you dont want him to all u gotta do is grab him, put him nose to it, make him smell it, spank him, and then put him outside where he will soon realize that he should go outside to go
Did you ever think that maybe the reason he whines is you are putting him in a crate. Why would you put him in a crate. He may be afraid of you now and can’t hold his bladder until he gets outside. I am not trying to be a smart aleck, I just don’t understand why you put him in a crate. If he has a accident use a newspaper and tap him on the nose or hit your hand with the paper. Good Luck..Please don’t put him in a crate anymore okay? lol
Has your dog been rewarded for whining in the past by being released from his crate? If that is not the case, try to ignore the whining. If your dog is just testing you, he’ll probably stop whining soon. Yelling at him or pounding on the crate will only make things worse.
If the whining continues after you’ve ignored him for several minutes, use the phrase he associates with going outside to eliminate. If he responds and becomes excited, take him outside. This should be a trip with a purpose, not play time. If you’re convinced that your dog doesn’t need to eliminate, the best response is to ignore him until he stops whining. Don’t give in; if you do, you’ll teach your dog to whine loud and long to get what he wants
PS. Crate training is the very best way to train your dog …Your doing a great job just keep it up and ignore people who try to tell you other wise!
