Interested in getting pekingese puppy. But can someone help me with housetraining. How often am I going to have to take the puppy outside for duties? Also, crate train her at night?

Housetraining a puppy requires time, vigilance, patience and commitment. Following the procedures outlined below, you can minimize house soiling incidents.
Virtually every puppy will have an accident in the house (more likely several). Expect this, it’s part of raising a puppy. The more consistent you are in following the basic housetraining procedures, the faster your puppy will learn acceptable behavior. It may take several weeks to housetrain your puppy, and with some of the smaller breeds, it might take longer.

The rule of the thumb is that a puppy will have to go outside to potty equivlatnet to how old it is +1 . For example: If the puppy is 3 months old, your puppy will have to go in at least 4 hours. 4 months- at least 5 hours etc.
There are wonderful books on postive training your dog and DVD’s for you.
I might also suggest look at your area rescues, there are many dogs that need to find a loving home. Many shelters have puppies available,also.

Puppies should be taken out ten to fifteen minutes after they eat or drink, as soon as they wake up, and right before they go to bed. Crate training her is the way to go. My pug is crate trained and it makes it so much easier. You don’t have to worry about her getting up in the middle of the night and having an accident. I let mine sleep with me the first week I had her just so she would get use to me and then after than she went in the crate to sleep. Now (2 years later) that is her personal getaway. She loves it! I can tell her “Let’s go night-night” and she will run to her crate and wait on me to close the door.
