I would try conditioning. While most sounds will not reproduce a gun’s concussive wave that goes along with the noise, this audio does a very good job. The idea is to play it very quietly, below the level where the dog reacts. Then over time, raise the sound level so that the dog finds the sound to be normal and not something to react adversively to. While the recordings were designed for horses, these are the most realistic tapes i’ve heard and i think they would work well for dogs. http://www.spookless.com/
usually if a dog is gun shy they wont ever not be. If your planning on hunting this dog you better get another one and train him or her from a pup if your not hunting the dog then just dont shoot around him.
What do you want him to do? You don’t start training with shooting.
There’s lot of helpon training a gundog on the net.
Step 1……. The dog is allowed to run free in a safe, private area and enjoy life.
Step 2….. Pigeons are hidden in the field and the dog finds them and they fly away.
Step 3…..While the dog is chasing the birds, a cap gun is shot. ……………The gauge of the gun is slowly increased over weeks. Step 4….. You go to a game farm where game birds can be shot and retrieved.
During all this time you are teaching your dog to sit , come and retrieve.
This is all a nutshell view of this.
Please stop shooting while the dog is caged. That is cruel.
well for one where are you shooting? shooting ranges dont allow dogs. and if your shooting inside your house your hurting your dogs ears which is why hes barking. plus your not allowed to shoot in your house. so if you must shoot with your dog with you, then shoot in an open range outside the more he is around guns the more he will be use to it.

Shock collar. When you go to shoot, hook the shock collar on him and every time he barks he’ll get shocked. He’ll learn in a few days.
a silencer might do the trick.

I am a gun dog trainer.
This is not how you gun train a dog.
Why are you shooting a .22 in your house?
You’ve already set your dog back.
What do you want him to do? You don’t start training with shooting.
