Dog training help, and how to clicker train 2 dogs at once?
Question by Laura loves Luna! Knowledge Over Age: Dog training help, and how to clicker train 2 dogs at once?
I am currently dog sitting a Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen and long story short, she hasn’t had any training, and I want to work on basic doggy manners like sit, stay, come, etc. I’ve tried clicker training, which is what I use with my other dog Luna, but I’m kind of confused on how to use clicker training with 2 dogs. I’ve read so many different things, so I don’t know what to believe! I’ve read that when training, give one dog a treat for doing the desired behavior, and give the other dog a treat for being calm and relaxed. I’ve also heard to just give the dog that I’m training the treats and just not give the other dog treats at all, and I’ve also heard to just have them in separate rooms. I don’t really know what to do! Advice please!
Also, the PBGV I am pet sitting doesn’t really respond well to any kind of training. I’ve been working on teaching sit for a couple of days now, and nothing really seems to be working. She isn’t very motivated, and then when I speak in a happier and more excited voice, she gets CRAZY excited and spins in circles and barks happily. How do I get her more motivated?

You’re best bet is training the dogs separately, You’ll have their attention since they won’t be distracted by the other dog… Just take turns and they should be fine ![]()
Just get her used to the clicker first, every time you use it give her a treat… praise her too for when she listens
What do you think? Answer below!

I have found that clicker training one dog at a time is the easiest way by removing the other dog to another room or crate. You can train two dogs at once and you can use the two different styles you mention. If you are clicking and treating one dog the other one will know or you can reward both after the click. I sometimes clicker train all four of my dogs sometimes at once. I usually work on the same behavior for all and just go one dog at a time. One dog gets clicked and treated, then it’s the next dog’s turn.
man, i don’t know
When starting out, work on training one dog at a time- just take turns. A good website for clicker training is http://www.clickersolutions.com and you can also join the list group from there.
I helped my naughty little puppy learn some good behaviours by following
the online training method which I found. It has great videos and explanations
and is a bit cheaper than going to the bookshops to buy a number of different
books, cos it covers all the topics. Look at the site and see what you
think. Hope this helps, Blake.
