While I do know a fair amount about BDSM puppy play is one of those more specific fetishes and lifestyles that I’m still studying. What I do know is that to begin with the level of intensity and role depth really is up to the individual person and couple, some people do it playfully just by barking and growling during sex from time to time while others live as a puppy whenever possible complete with how they move, behave, and communicate. Furthermore, depending on the person/couple, puppy play can be extremely sexual, or not sexual at all however there is almost always a BDSM aspect involved seeing as someone is in charge and owns the other. Also, much like many other fetishes, there are no exact statistics in regards to how many men/women enjoy puppy play however I do know a few men and a few women who get really into it. Also, Michael Daniels has several books, both erotica and educational, that focus on puppy play. It’s gay male in nature, but, like most BDSM information, you can pull out the most pertinent and widely applicable pieces regardless of gender or orientation.
Personally, I’m more interested in having a puppy (especially a male puppy) than playing one myself, but I’m sure there are many female puppies (and even more female kittens . . . I don’t know why, but the ladies seem more drawn to feline animal roleplay).
Just remember that while there are some general information that can help, all BDSM, puppy play included, is about exploring on your own through experrience (remembering, of course, to keep it safe, sane, and consensual).
