I used the crate training technique and it worked wonderfully. It took about a week and a half. We just put her in the cage for about 15 minutes when she went on the carpet then took he outside. But you have to catch them in the act or its pointless.
The keys to good housetraining include: * Using a crate to prevent accidents and make it more likely that your pup will eliminate when you take him outside; and * Rewarding your puppy handsomely whenever he does the right thing in the right place. Punishing your pup for mistakes can actually make housetraining harder.
I found that crate training was the fastest and easiest way to house train my puppy. Not only does it help get them into a routine it helps with leaving them home alone and having a place for them to sleep. Make routine with the crate training. In the morning take the puppy out of the crate and to the potty and then playtime 20 to 30 mins then breakfast after that crate. Then potty again if the puppy doesn’t go then back in the crate for 15 to 20 mins then back to the potty. This helps prevent accidents. Accidents are harder to correct then actually training the puppy. Do this same routine through out the day between lunch and dinner. Make sure there is playtime and nap time throughout the day. I swear by this system. I hope it helps!
Well puppies can only hold it in hours to how many months they are. For example a 4 month old puppy can usually hold it for four hours. You need to make sure to take them out a lot. When I got my puppy at 4 months he wasn’t trained at all I took him out every 4 hours, or if I saw him sniffing the ground like he needs to go. After or while they are relieving themselves you praise them by saying something like “good boy/girl”. When they get inside you praise them with a treat then. if you catch them in the process you pick them up while they are in the process (if you catch them in time) tell them NO, with a serious tone and take them outside.
You must be patient. - Never be physical such as hitting or kicking your dog. This could result in you dog fearing you and causing behavioral problems such as chewing on thinks and peeing in the wrong places. It could also cause the dog to become aggressive. - Use rewards. When trying to teach a command use treats AND praise. It is also good to praise your dog for doing something good. For example, peeing outside, chewing on her/his toys,etc. A simple good dog and maybe a quick petting is enough. Just make sure your dog knows that what they are doing is a good thing. - Start with teaching them commands such as sit, stay, come, etc. This makes teaching you dogs other things much easier such as housetraining. - Be consistent. Make sure to keep up with the same routine until your dog is trained. Don’t become lazy! Consistensy is very important when it comes to pottytraining. Make sure your dog is eating and going outside around the same time every day. - Research the breed. Certain dog breeds learn in different ways. For example if you have a very energetic dog it’s a good idea to tire it out a little bit before training. The reason being is so that the dog has an easier time focusing. - Make sure to have a crate of some kind. Make sure the crate is a wonderful place with a soft bed, toys, and maybe some treats hidden in it. As a punishment, take out the bed, toys, treats, etc. Using the crate system is a great way to teach your dog what’s right and wrong. - Catch them in the act. If you see your dog has done something wrong it is pointless to punish them unless you catch them in the act. This is why you must be extremely attentive when training a dog. - Never yell! Make sure you simply are using a firm low, and serious tone. Make sure your dog knows that you are in charge. Yelling may make your dog think you are playing. Those are the training methods I have used with my dogs and they have worked excellently. I wish you good luck!
The way I broke mine was to take out on a leash daily for maybe 2 weeks, wait till the puppy does it’s dirty work then come back in a reward him/her! After about 2 weeks I started gradually letting my dog off the leash and watching him while he goes. After about a month or 2 I just started letting him out when he goes to the door and bark and he comes back in on his own! Good luck just remember to reward good behavior!
